The 3Rs started to get my attention a year ago. It was during the time when the government authorities and business organizations promoted “the importance of conserving environment” enormously via different channels all around Singapore. Because of the influences from the advertisements, I realized the severity of the problem and felt the urge to practice 3Rs.
I was very much initiative in the beginning. I reduced the usage of plastic bags and recycled them. However, it did not last for long. My attitude towards the issues gradually decreases with time. Eventually, I practice the 3Rs only when I am convenient. Since then, I wonder how effective the campaigns and advertisements were and how we can make the public more deeply aware of the severity of the issues so that they are willing to change their life styles to practice 3Rs. As the objective is to find the individual attitude towards the problem, the survey will be an appropriate way of collecting information.
Hence, I would like to post my research project topic as “Students’ knowledge and attitude toward 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle)”.
General research question; “What is the students's attitue and concern toward 3Rs and how many of them actually practice 3Rs on daily basis?”
Hypothesis; “Most students are aware of the severe impacts that wastes can cause to the environment and they practice 3Rs when it is convenient to them.”
The objective of this study is to analyse the attitude and concern of students toward 3Rs and thus provide helpful suggestions and feedbacks to the related organizations and individuals to solve the problem.
The objectives of this report are; to re-inform the students the importance of 3Rs, provide students with the statistic of the cohort’s efforts in reducing waste which thus give them some moral support to practice 3Rs and finally, to provide the statistic to related authorities and organizations to inform the effectiveness of their efforts.

Dear Sammy,
This is quite well done! You clearly delineate the topic, which is very highly relevant, and you directly present many of the key elements needed to start your research. You might want to further refine the research question so that it actually embodies both of the questions that it currently poses. Overall though, this is avery fine job! Thank you!
Hi Sammy,
I think this is a very good research project. I think generally people does practice reduce and reuse. However, when it comes to recycle, it may be a little tougher. Recycling bins are only found in some places. If I didn't remember wrongly, in science faculty, recycling bins are mostly found in the canteen.
I feel that more recycling bins should be place around the campus
Dear Sammy,
Such a coincidence that we are in the same group and doing the same topic!
I think our research questions are very much the same, because we focus on the attitudes of students and how to increase their awareness of 3Rs. Generally I feel that there is a need to do this survey because at least for me, being a Singaporean citizen, I feel that there is much more to be done on everyone's part to conserve the environment.
Right now although most of us are aware of 3Rs, we do not practice it often or maybe I should say the 3Rs are not instilled in our minds such that we will automatically reduce, reuse and recycle anywhere and everywhere.
Hence this is a topic that is worth investigating!
Hi Sammy,
Just like I have commented on Eileen's post, practicing the 3Rs is indeed an interesting area of reasearch! I totally agree that students are aware of the importance of practicing the 3Rs, yet, they practice them only when they are convenient. It seems that they are not looking at the big picture, that is, every little effort (and similarly, damage) done by us would contribute greatly to the environment. Hence, it is of utmost importance that we could instil the idea of practicing the 3Rs into NUS students and change their mindset indefinitely.
In future, We could really be looking at a rather comprehensive and 'green' Singapore. Undoubtedly, we are already green with all the greeneries around the island which give it the name: garden city. However, I feel that we are still lacking in becoming truely 'green' that is to practice the 3Rs frequently.
This is a topic worth reseaching on! We can dicuss more during our meeting. Good job! =)
